About the Artist

Carlos was born in Maryland and now lives along the Eastern Shore, where the Bay shapes nearly everything: light, weather, rhythm, and time. The wide horizons, shifting skies, and quiet waters have become central to his work. There is a stillness here that invites closer looking, and much of his painting grows out of that calm attention.

Although Maryland is home, Carlos grew up in Madrid, Spain, where he was surrounded by great painting from an early age. Museums became classrooms, and the masters taught him without words that truth in painting comes from observing light honestly and allowing feeling to guide the hand. That early immersion continues to influence how he approaches form, atmosphere, and the human presence within a scene.

Travel remains essential to Carlos’s process. He moves between places to gather impressions of faces, gestures, landscapes, and moments of connection, then returns to the Bay to reflect and paint. Distance helps clarify what matters. Whether inspired by faraway cultures or familiar shorelines, his work is always grounded in lived experience.

Carlos’s formal training includes a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from Towson University. He has taught art at the college and high school levels, as well as privately, and his work has appeared on book covers and been collected by private clients. He is honored to have received an award from Johns Hopkins Hospital, recognizing the impact of his work beyond the studio.

At its core, Carlos’s goal is simple: to create paintings that offer a quiet place to pause a moment of recognition, and a reminder that beauty, dignity, and connection exist in both the extraordinary journey and the everyday light close to home.
